N° 15 - THE FOUNTAIN OF THE ROSE
The Fountain of the Rose, work of the sculptor Albino Gussani from Turin, was erected in 1884. Raised by syenite steps, it consists of a basin made of white granite from Alzo, two twin columns, a large shell made of white Carrara marble, three stars made of yellow Verona marble and in the middle a large rose made of red Verona marble
. In the floor of the square has polychrome pebbles and an edelweiss flower. Its neme is carved and repeated in different languages: leontopodium or edelweis, gnaphalium or ruhrhaut. The Rose Fountain, in addition to highlighting a significant presence of Masonic symbols such as roses, stars, double columns, is a true ode to life. The gush of water that today flows from the upper part of the pool once flowed from the center of the large shell. The shell is the symbol of the woman from whom, with pain (presence of brambles), life (water) is born. The water is welcomed into the basin by a triangle inside which stands out a brass circle that refers to the symbol of the all-seeing eye. On the right of the fountain, highlighted by a memorial stone, there is the birthplace of Federico Rosazza Pistolet, the house where he died, eighty-six years later. The house is still inhabited in the summer by descendants of the Senator and therefore cannot be visited.
